Monday Knights, Bold and True

Hello dear friends, Time once again to add a little editorial on the old campaign webby site. Firstly, I want to thank Nikki for designing a great "Monday Knights" logo! She used that logo to decorate the inside of her dice box. Super cool. Her logo would not fit the format of the header, so I borrowed her "Monday Knight Character" and re-did my existing logo. Thanks Nik and great work!
Secondly, I want to thank Jim for his awesome DMing of the Curse of Strahd campaign. The personality he puts into his NPCs (Including voices) and the atmosphere of uncertainty and dread that he brings to his encounters has really made this a stand-out experience for me. Also, a definite nod to our players who have brought such rich performances to their characters. This is probably my favorite adventure, and not just because I am unhealthily fascinated with Victorian horror fiction. :)
Thirdly, with all that being said, I find myself jonesing a bit for Shadowrun. We've been at this adventure for a long time with still a long time left to go. I love the adventure, but kind of want to mix it up a bit. In a perfect world, I would love to keep playing the Curse of Strahd and inter-mix it with other things. For example: Alternate every two weeks; two weeks of Strahd then two weeks of Shadowrun or whatever, then back to Strahd.
This would keep us on the straight and narrow, pushing forward with Strahd and it's epicness while exploring other characters and adventures. I don't think two weeks on/ two weeks off should be too confusing or hard to keep up with.
Really, this is just me throwing out an idea and I really want everyone's input. I'm just one vote of seven; let's hear what y'all think about the topic and where you want things to go for the group. If everyone is perfectly fine with the status quo, then I'm good too. I'm enjoying the hell out of this adventure anyway. Cheers!
Still Here

“Anyone who says writing is easy isn't doing it right.” - Amy Joy
Hey Monday Knights. Sorry I haven't done many updates as of late. I have been posting short form notes from each session in Finn's Journal, I just haven't been terribly inspired to flesh it all out in Finn's prose. I'll be working on that to catch up - I certainly don't want the website to become defunct.
Thanks to Jim for sending along some corrections that I need to make in my notes before finalizing them. I am usually scribbling down notes like crazy during the session, but if some role-playing or event involves Finn or grabs my attention - I tend to have gaps in my notes. So let me know if you guys notice something I got wrong, or If I missed something cool that your character did.
I'll be adding as many pictures as I can, and as soon as maps are made available I will add them to the appropriate section of the Adventure page. Thanks for the awesome and inspirational role-playing! The saga of the new Grim Order is only possible with heroes like you. Cheers!
Happy New Year
WM Doug - Jan 1 - 2017
“For last year's words belong to last year's language And next year's words await another voice. And to make an end is to make a beginning." - T.S. Eliot
Auld Lang Syne is a Scots poem written by Robert Burns in 1788. It is well known in many countries, especially in the English-speaking world, its traditional use being to bid farewell to the old year at the stroke of midnight. By extension, it is also sung at funerals, graduations, and as a farewell or ending to other occasions.
The song's Scots title may be translated into standard English as "old long since", or more idiomatically, "long long ago", "days gone by" or "old times". Consequently, "For auld lang syne", as it appears in the first line of the chorus, might be loosely translated as "for (the sake of) old times".
Auld Lang Syne
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind?
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and old lang syne?
CHORUS:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we'll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.
And surely you'll buy your pint cup!
and surely I'll buy mine!
And we'll take a cup o' kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.
CHORUS
We two have run about the slopes,
and picked the daisies fine;
But we've wandered many a weary foot,
since auld lang syne.
CHORUS
We two have paddled in the stream,
from morning sun till dine;
But seas between us broad have roared
since auld lang syne.
CHORUS
And there's a hand my trusty friend!
And give me a hand o' thine!
And we'll take a right good-will draught,
for auld lang syne.
CHORUS

Well I pulled up my britches and am finally caught up with Finn's Journal. I've also set up the main Strahd page with information and NPC/maps that were needed and added new sections for new areas.
I've added a list of our goals (and will endevour to keep it updated) to the loot/notes page.

Sorry folks! I haven't been doing a very good job of keeping Finn's Journal updated, unfortunately. I've tried to keep some crib notes going of things that happen during a monday night, but just haven't been too inspired to turn those points into the flowing prose of our good 'ol bard, Finn. I'll try and get caught up this week. I Promise. :)
IC-OOC/OOG-IG/OT
DM Jim - Sept 26 - 2017
With any part you play, there is a certain amount of YOURSELF in it. There has to be, otherwise it's just not acting. IT'S LYING, - Johnny Depp
Why?:
The Curse of Strahd is a horror genre adventure, and as such requires a great deal of mood setting and roleplaying to get the maximum impact. Things such as levity Out of Game (OOG) are anathema to the horror mood. Likewise activities that make roleplaying more difficult detract from the possible enjoyment of the adventure that I have so painstakingly created for our group and everyone wants to help develop to its full potential. My ambition is to have us optimize the roleplaying environment for our group for everyone’s maximum enjoyment.
How?:
During combat roleplaying has to take a back seat as the amount of OOG discussion required is extensive. When the characters are In Combat (IC) roleplaying is subjugated to the need to explain what is happening in short bursts. During combat the assumption is that you are speaking OOG. If you wish to speak In Game (IG) you will need to signal to the group that you doing so by raising your hand next to your face to let us know that it is your character that is speaking.
You are free to choose a different gesture, but we need to know what it is and it needs to be obvious. When combat ends we switch to Out of Combat (OOC) and the assumption will then flip. Your default speaker should be your character. If you need to speak OOG then you need to provide the visual clue to the group (raised hand). To make the transition from IC to OOC there is going to be an OOC turn where each person, following the initiative order, describe what their character is doing for the next 6 seconds. Then we will determine what each person is doing and for how long they are doing it. A group caller chosen by the group should help get everyone on the same page. The DM will then determine which activities need to be addressed first and we will continue IG until initiate is again required and we go back to IC.
If you wish to have a side discussion it must be quieter than the roleplaying that is occurring or far enough from the table that it is unlikely to interfere. Feel free to go to a different room. Be mindful of the possibility you could be Over Talking (OT) someone who is attempting to roleplay.
All of this would just be more rules were it not for a game element to it. Hero Points will be the currency of this game. Here is how it will work. The DM will be the final arbiter. If someone speaks OOG during OOC and does not protect themselves with the gesture, anyone who has had the mood effected by that may themselves go OOG by gesturing and take one of their Hero Points from them. You will be entitled to the Hero Point, but are not required to take one.
Keep in mind that the GM may award Hero Points for exceptional roleplaying, and if someone is working against you getting that point, you should be entitled to recompense. If a side discussion detracts from your roleplaying you should also feel free to have the loud parties give you the hero point you might have gotten if you had been allowed to demonstrate your roleplaying without interference. May the best roleplayers win. : )
This is a concept in development I hope we can adopt next week. Please let me know if you feel you can improve on the idea in the mean time. Thanks.
Spotlight and Birthday Wishes!

Today you are you! That is truer than true! There is no one alive who is you-er than you! - Dr. Seuss
It's my honor to wish my best bud Nik a Happy Birthday! I won't say how old she is - but I've known her almost my whole life. (So she's oold!) As a role player she has given life to some amazing characters in our campaign -
Uphir (Mighty Dragonborn Barbarian - thoughtful and passionate);
Falon (Walking a dangerous road of blood and steel, an unlikely leader of a raucus band of misfits);
Angel (Ferocious Dracoform who has shown loyalty to her friends and fierce pain and death to her enemies);
Gem Everjolly (Easy going and friendly, Nik brings such entertainment when playing this carefree little warrior. Easily my favorite of her performances)
Playing with Nik all these years has been such an integral part of all of our enjoyment for the little nuances she gives to each of her definitely unique characters. Wouldn't be the same without you Nik!
A new regular contributor

“Are you sure this isn't a nightmare? And that we won't just wake up? Yes. Because dreamers always wake up and leave their monsters behind.” ― Alexandra Bracken, In The Afterlight
Hey folks!
I'm happy to announce a new regular contributor to the Monday Knights portal. Our very own Nim "Steve" Burrfoot will be providing creative articles to the Curse of Strahd adventure tab, under the heading of "Nim's Ecology of Evil".
This is a unique page that outlines in great detail the many beasts and foul creatures the Company of the Wolf encounter in the cursed land of Barovia - all from the point of view of monster expert - Nim Burrfoot.
Please remember to follow Finn's Journal which, in his own (my) words, recounts the heroic efforts of this brave troupe of adventurers in this terrifying land of pure evil.
Thanks for the help and contribution Steve. All this makes for a great adventure for all.
