Hey folks. Chomping at the bit to get this going, but soon I think we shall find ourselves walking the rain-slick streets of Seattle once more. I have been thinking a lot about this new incarnation of Shadowrun and our journeys ahead, and Jim and Don have got me thinking. At some point, the intention is to port over our Nightshade characters to SR5, so that we can eventually continue with their story-line. But should we be using newly created characters to start out in SR5, or would you rather convert one of your other 2nd tier characters to use instead?
I guess I hadn't really thought about it, but do we really need new characters if there are still characters that we love and would like to play? I know Jim doesn't really want to make any new ones - he's happy with Solja and Dokk. Why should he waste his time on a character he doesn't even want to make? (Sorry for being slow to pick up what you meant, Jim.) I have been following this line of thought all along, as the only new characters I've created have been remakes of Talon, Maverick and Winger. lol. Let me know how you guys feel about this?
There would be rules for the conversion:
1) Obviously try and recreate your character as close to the intent of the character you had before. Changes could be made, obviously, if that better represents what you were going for.
2) Because these characters would have had some experience, create them as Prime Runners -
A) Changes to the Resource block on the character creation table = more nuyen;
B) You get 35 karma to start as well as up to 35 karma in Positive and Negative Qualities for a total potential of 70 karma for character creation;
C) The max availability for Gear is 15 instead of 12;
D) Characters may convert up to 25 starting karma into nuyen;
E) Instead of Charisma x 2 karma points for contacts, it is Charisma x 3.
3) We are thinking of also giving some extra Karma to be spent after character creation as a bonus to make things more representative of their experience.
Some of our B-Team characters include: Solja, Pack, heat, Izzy, Talon, Maverick, Winger, Blue, Rex, etc. You may really love the new character you created more than your old characters. If that's the case we can work with that as well. The idea is for the players to get the most fun out of their game as possible. We'll discuss this before we go forward.
