That afternoon many townsfolk came to the Inn to see the PCs. Word had gotten out that they had rescued the widow Mirna Drendar and her children from the clutches of the Redbrands and they wanted to meet the heroes. Many questions were asked of the PCs and they spent time speaking of the adventures they have had and what transpired in the Redbrand hideout. The people expressed their frustration with the thugs, their extortion tactics and most recently the broad daylight murder of Mirna's husband, Thel. They have had enough, and hearing the stories of the PCs has emboldened them to express themselves openly. The gathering of the people grew and shrank as the evening wore on until the last of the townspeople left the Inn at last and the PCs headed to bed themselves.
The good night's sleep they were looking for was not to come. The Redbrand's leader, Glasstaff, had deployed a devious ambush. The Redbrands surrounded the Inn and some of them stole their way into the Inn and set the central hallway on fire. They barricaded the door into the Main Inn and had crossbowmen stationed at the other end of the hall. Soon the PC's woke up coughing as the thick smoke started to overtake their rooms. Farooq was the first to react as he immediately thought of his comrades across the hall. He charged across the fully burning hall and bust down the door into Finder and Keeper's room. They were rising and making their way out the window so Farooq went to save Elsa in her room, dodging crossbow shots as he went.
Thinking pragmatically, Nash began throwing weapons and equipment out his bedroom window before making a move himself. Finder went down to a hail of crossbow bolts as soon as he tried to climb out the window. The Redbrands had stationed themselves so they could snipe anyone trying to escape.Elsa took a deadly crossbow hit as she was helped out the window by Farooq, who followed right after. Ara charged into action, turning into a large mountain lion and leaping upon a Redbrand sniper in the barn.
Having no weapons or armor, Farooq was forced to use his great strength and fists to fight his way through the Redbrand right outside his window. Farooq was severely wounded but managed to knock out his opponent and was soon racing across the front porch of the Inn to the sniper there. He took a deadly bolt before he could reach him, and went down. Ara defeated his opponent and soon was bounding across the yard to engage with more Redbrand assassins.
Keeper used her healing potion on her brother and he was thankfully revived from near death. They saw Sildar Hallwinter rushing down the blazing hall to the end with the archers firing upon him. He pushed his way through and Finder and Keeper were soon joining him in the end room fighting Redbrands. Nash fired an arrow through the window at enemies before climbing out and finding concealment behind a nearby tree. He had been about to try and get Farooq's spear to him in time for him to see Farooq fall. Nash used his healers kit to stabilize Elsa and Farooq, and got off a few arrows at his enemies.
Soon Finder, Keeper, Nash and Ara had defeated all the opponents in the main yard and began making their way to the well when more archers fired at them from behind the burning building. Finder and Keeper leapt atop the burning building to attack down upon the redbrands. Ara went to the barn to free the horses with the help of the stablehands. On his way to the back yard Nash was attacked with a spell and saw a wizard with a glass staff. He charged forward and was felled by 3 magic missiles. Keeper took a serious crossbow wound as he and his sister finished off the Redbrands they were fighting.
Sildar charged into the back yard and upon seeing the wizard he screamed in anger the name Iarno and began battling his former colleague. Apparently the man he had come searching for was not lost or captured at all....he was the leader of the Redbrands! They battled for a brief moment (Ara cast a bonfire spell at Iarno as well) before Iarno blinked away. The last of the Redbrand ambushers fled into the night. Those thugs who remained alive were gathered up and bound. The fallen PCs were healed with potions.
The townsfolk came running to help with the fire and after a long night of fire fighting only a portion of the Inn remained. The PCs were covered in dirt and ash, as were the other townsfolk. The stonehill family were distraught but thankful to the PCs for their heroics. Generous donations were given from Farook and keeper to help with the rebuilding. The prisoners were brought by Sildar to the Town hall cells. The PC's, exhausted as they were, bed down for the day to rest - hoping not enough Redbrands were left to cause a serious threat.
OH, and......DING!
