Editor: Sorry folks. We had an exciting battle and a fun night, but we have no video as I forgot to hit the damn record button. I need a producer. :(
The PCs searched for a while until they found some tracks leading through the city streets of the River District. They followed them for about ten minutes and spoke to an old citizen who said he didn't see anything, but that the grisly murders in the area were enough to keep most folks close to home. Rich or poor, on the streets or in your beds - it seemed you were not safe anywhere from these bloody attacks.
They followed the tracks some more until they seemed to lead to an old boarded up warehouse. One window on the back side of the building, on the top floor, was not boarded up and that was where the tracks ended. Finder crawled up the wall to the window and crept in, stepping onto a platform which was raised up above the warehouse floor below.
Just then, magical darkness enveloped him and he suffered a series of attacks that left him bloodied. He scrambled up the wall, digging his claws into the wood, and got out of the darkness near the ceiling. He crawled onto a crossbeam and turned himself invisible with a spell. He was in no condition to keep fighting and he couldn't even cast a heal spell as that would ruin his invisibility.
Crossbow attacks came down upon the group as they tried to decide what to do. Farooq had raced off around the corner of the building to try and find a ground floor entrance. Bronn cast a dispel magic on the darkness and it faded. Nash scored a hit on the female grimlock in the window even as more of the creatures leapt out the window to attack.
Farooq found a large warehouse door on the far side of the building that was chained and locked. He began trying to break through the wooden door with all his strength, over and over again to no avail. He could hear Nash calling to him that a battle had erupted out back and he eventually went to join his comrades. Even as he battled with his friends, Farooq saw his chance and took a mighty running leap and scrambled up to the window, moving in and finding himself surrounded by screaming grimlock Berzerkers with mighty axes, and strange spell-scarred grimlock with blue fire streaming from their foreheads and eyes.
The last remaining grimlock outside was defeated and soon Bronn and Nash were coordinating on how they were going to get into the window. Bronn brought out some rope, looped it, and gave it to Nash to tie onto something so Bronn could climb up. Nash climbed in to see Farooq swinging his spear and holding off 5 grimlocks - berzerkers and spell-scarred. He could find nothing to tie the rope onto, so he grappled the creature in front of him and managed to wrap the rope loop around its torso! As Bronn climbed up, Nash had to fight against holding the grapple against his opponent as he was being quickly dragged towards the window.
There did seem to be a leader among the grimlocks - a female in leather armor. She was using better weapons, not the primitive weapons of the rest of them. She was calling orders but had to retreat from the vicious wounds delivered by Farooq. Soon half the warehouse was covered by a heavy obscuring mist as the grimlock leader fled deeper into the warehouse (Unbeknownst to the PCs, she was fleeing through one of the second floor windows and escaping into the night.
Finder, still wounded severely, had been spending his time scouting out the rest of the warehouse from the ceiling beams. He ran into some trouble while navigating and at one point fell while traveling through the heavy mist, but he soon regained his footing and crawled up once more. He had a pivotal role to play in the coming moments.
The berzerkers were scoring heavy hits against Nash, Bronn and Farooq, who were all fighting valiantly. Bronn spent almost the whole battle healing his comrades until using up his last spell. Finder was soon on the scene and still suffering from grievous wound and bleeding heavily, began to help the party with healing spells as well. Most importantly using his magic to revive Bronn when he fell, so that Bronn could continue healing.
Nash was wounded heavily as well and decided he needed to get away from the platform and get range for his bow. Leaping down off the side of the platform he made his way out onto the main warehouse floor, expertly killing a spell-scarred grimlock hiding deep in the darkness. He then spun around and began firing arrows like ballistae, ripping through the remaining enemies on the platform with uncanny precision and power. That combined with the valiant spear and axe cuts was enough to finish off the last of the berzerkers.
Breathing heavily from the exertion of the fight, and wounded almost to the point of death, regardless of all the healing used, the group looked around at the carnage around them. The leader grimlock was nowhere to be found, and any other foes were either dead or fled with their leader. They could finally rest and hopefully lick their wounds a little.
Here's where the battle ended.....
Tune in next week as the DM remembers to hit the record button, and doesn't miss any transitions or forget to show the maps to the audience.
